Weibel’s Doppler velocity radars are designed for precise velocity measurements of free-flying objects such as projectiles, artillery rounds, and rockets. Between Earth and space: stratosphere-compatible, solar-powered high-altitude aircraft, known as HAPs (High Altitude Platforms), offer a sustainable alternative to satellites for Earth observation and communication. They are reusable, cost-effective and flexible in use. The DLR joint project HAP-alpha is developing such a technology demonstrator and is endeavoring to establish a complete system capable of permanent operation. The aim is for DLR to build up comprehensive expertise for the development of high-performance, high-flying solar aircraft and to play an active role in shaping the legal framework. In summer 2025, the HAP-alpha successfully passed a ground vibration test.

The SCFAN-CTRL-5U is an internal fan control module installed inside the chassis to manage cooling performance. It integrates with FAN trays and operates through Kontron’s Power Supply Control Module (PSCM) to control up to one 12V @ 3.5A fan and seven 12V @ 2.5A fans. This module ensures efficient thermal management and stable system operation in high-performance VPX-based embedded systems. It is deployed in the M-SAM-II multi-function radar system, providing reliable and optimized cooling control for mission-critical environments.
